Wim Jansen. Celtic legend

Wim Jansen The man who famously stopped the ten and brought us Henrik larsson sadly passed away today at the age of 75.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he’s a Legendary figure in Celtic folklore. Despite him only being at the helm for only 12 months he achieved greatness despite the massive pressure stowed upon him and overcame many obstacles in his way. He’s rightly regarded as a Celtic icon.

The holy grail that was the league title was brought home by the Dutchman for the first time in a decade. In doing so it stopped Rangers breaking our nine in a row record and doing the unthinkable ten in a row. how we celebrated. A day that will live long in the memory. Possibly More relief than anything else. Wim and his team put an end to a decade of pain and suffering for the Celtic support.

The job he done was remarkable. When you think the pressure he was under in that season to stop ten in a row. Not to mention losing quality players like Jorge Cadete and paolo Di Canio while at the same time Rangers were spending big bucks to add to their already successful side. There’s no doubt they were odds on favourites to win the title and do the thing every Celtic supporter dreaded. Ten in a row.

For Wim to stop that was tremendous. For him To come in to a foreign country and work with different coaches and sign a number of players under that extra pressure and win not one but two trophies is nothing short of miraculous. We Even lost our first two games and looked doomed but Wim never gave up and made us into a trophy winning side. Firstly winning the league cup at Ibrox and then clinching the title on that unforgettable day On May the 9th 1998 against St Johnstone at Celtic park.

Every Celtic supporter will never forget what Wim done for us even if he was only here a for a short spell. He brought us back the league Title. Supporters like myself could barely remember a league title win. Some had never witnessed it. Some longed to witness it again. He’s a hero to many. He also brought the legend that is Henrik Larsson to Celtic. We have a lot to thank him for. God bless you Wim. You made a lot of folk very happy. YNWA.
