Graeme Souness has been trending recently due to his bitterness towards our club with his disrespectful comments about our skipper Callum McGregor during last weeks’s game against Germany.
It got me thinking about one of the times he was spectacularly shown up for the bitter arrogant fool that he is. Rewind almost 21 years ago and Souness brought his Blackburn side to Glasgow for a UEFA cup clash at Celtic Park.
Celtic sneaked a late win through a goal through none other than Henrik Larsson to take a slender one nil lead going into the second leg at Ewood park.
It wasn’t exactly a spectacular performance, but we ground out the win all the same. It was the aftermath of the game that grabbed the headlines with Blackburn skipper Garry Flitcroft explaining how his gaffer had proclaimed it as ‘men against boys out there’
That comment did nothing but fire up Martin O’Neill’s side ahead of the Ewood showdown. An early superbly taking Henrik larsson (who else) put us firmly in the driving seat before former Blackburn favourite Chris Sutton made sure of the win and ultimately the tie on the night.
Not only were we worthy winners, we also made Souness look like the bitter fool he is.
