Mikey Johnston, what is his true value?

Mikey Johnston’s future at Celtic has still to be determined, but reports are circling that he’s a serious target for West Brom, the club he enjoyed an impressive recent loan spell with.

It’s widely believed that the club want something in the region of £2-£3 million for the Republic of Ireland international, with some believing the fee is actually higher.

The club should quite rightly be getting what they believe is the best price for one of their players, but what is the true value of Mikey Johnston?

Mikey is a talented player that is not in question, but his fitness and inconsistency holds him back from being a decent player.

The club know this and so does Brendan Rodgers despite his constant praising of the Irish international. This is just Brendan being ‘cute’ as he knows it will increase the value of a player he doesn’t need in his squad going forward.

Realistically we will be looking at something in the region of £1.5 million to £2 million for Mikey. Some have even suggested he could form part of a deal with West Brom’s championship rivals Norwich in a deal that sees Adam Idah move to Glasgow permanently.

The truth is no one really knows, but something we do know is that Mikey’s time at Celtic is coming to an end. What fee he will fetch us is anyone’s guess.
